You guys… I finally did it. I finally went to New York City! Anyone who knows me knows how badly I’ve always wanted to live in New York one day and work in fashion for a big company. I would constantly remind everyone around me of this “wild” dream I had, and they would always laugh at me because I’ve never even been to NYC. How could anyone say they wanted to live somewhere they’ve never been to? Well, let me tell you guys something.. it’s exactly how I had always imagined it in my head. New York is my place.

I had so much fun in the short four days we were there, but I still have that itch to go back and explore even more. So, I’m planning another trip back later in the year! It averaged about 30 degrees fahrenheit during our time in NY, so now I want to experience the city in the summer. Stay tuned for that trip.

For all the people that have never been to NYC, this blog post is for you. Since we ate at the trendy spots, and visited the touristy areas, I thought it’d be the perfect guide for the first time New York goers.

WHERE WE ATE

There were a lot of other restaurants on our list that we didn’t get to try. Hopefully I can visit those on my next NYC trip so that I can have more to recommend.

WHAT WE SAW

Warning- extremely touristy.

  • 5th Avenue- filled with iconic flagship stores!
  • Central Park (we spent an entire morning walking throughout the park and people watching- so beautiful and relaxing!)
  • Rockefeller Center
  • Times Square (I recommend leaving this to the end of the day. Bright lights and less people. Everything is open until about 1 AM, so there’s no rush)
  • Brooklyn Bridge
  • Time Out Market (very similiar to San Diego’s Liberty Station. It’s basically an indoor food hall)
  • The Friend’s apartment building
  • Washington Square Park
  • Comedy Cellar (we’re really into comedy, so naturally this is where we spent Valentines’s Day and got a surprise bit from Nikki Glaser!)
  • 9/11 Memorial (we didn’t know you had to pay to go inside the museum- we thought it was just a memorial site. Buy your tickets in advance to avoid the long lines!)

I want to add that SOHO was by far my favorite neighborhood in New York. We took a couple of hours to just walk around and enjoy the area, which is far less crowded than the Upper East Side and Greenwich. There’s a lot of cute vintage shops and small coffee shops with shorter wait times. The streets are narrow and fairly empty, and the iconic brownstone homes make for a perfect Instagram photo. For anyone who wants an IG worthy photo, SOHO is the place to be.

I can’t wait to go back and see more of the city. If any of you have ever been to NYC, let me know in the comments what your favorite restaurants are. Next time I visit NYC, I want to try out some new places- preferrably a restaurant with Italian food (anything with pizza and pasta is my jam).
